A Siege of Salt and Sand

The documentary “A Siege of Salt and Sand” portrays how environmental change, specifically the warming of the planet is effecting the politics in Tunisia. One of the key elements that this film highlights is how people in Tunisia are having a difficult time finding clean drinking water, which in turn makes it a highly prized resource in the area. Due to the rising temperatures, much of the land is drying up, causing desertification, which in turn makes it harder for farmers to cultivate their crops, leading to a decrease of agricultural production, and it is all due to a lack of water.

Also, Tunisia is losing some of its land due to rising ocean levels. Water is the most necessary resource for humans as we need it to survive and almost all of the products that humans produce start with water in some form. While the government of Tunisia sees this problem of a lack of water, they have yet to do anything drastic to solve it. I believe that this documentary is important for people to see as it opens eyes to how bad this problem can be if nothing is done to solve it.
